My name is Carrie and I live in Bath, Maine with my husband, Ian, and our two boys, Zeke (6) and Finn (4). We have two chocolate Labs, Kaia and Murphy.
I was a runner in high school, competing in track and cross-country all four years. I was a decent runner, but excelled more in sprints and hurdles and was the 1994 Class State Champ in the 300m hurdles. I'm pretty sure I still hold the school record in that event. I really am fairly modest, but who doesn't like to spout out some accomplishments...isn't that what a blog is for? :-) I did okay in cross-country. I think I might have won two races, but was in the top ten in a lot of them. I also ran indoor and outdoor track in college at the University of Maine. I gave up on distance running at that point because I felt I could no longer compete, particularly at that level. I just barely hung on in track. It quickly became apparent that I really had to work at it, rather than rely on my natural abilities. After school, running pretty much became non-existent in my life. I would run every now and again, but there are very few track events for someone not in school...running any road races didn't even enter my mind (I'm not sure why).
Fast-forward to a year or so ago, a friend from high school (who wasn't a runner back then) started running and competing. I had just had our second child, but promised that I would start running again soon. I felt that the time was right, I looked forward to getting out there to clear my head, to take a break from the kids (I'm a stay-at-home mom), and get my body back in shape. So in February 2011, I started running and signed up for my first 5K. Within four months and only getting to run one or two times a week, I am already in my clothes from before I became pregnant the first time. I'm also only a couple of minutes from my high school cross-country times. I've completed several 5K's, 10K's, and two half marathons so far. In high school I had a goal to run a marathon by age 30. It happened a little later, but as of October 2013, I've done two!
I also like doing all sorts of crafts. I like to bake and decorate cakes. You can see some of my creations here. I like to sew and create. For a picture of the boys in last year's Halloween costumes, click here. I like building and interior design. I love my kids so much and my incredible husband who supports me unconditionally. So far, life has been pretty good to me.
