Marathon Outfit

So I've been planning my outfit for the marathon for quite some time. I knew as soon as I won the YMX tank a few months ago, I wanted to wear it for this special day. At the time, I was also intent on wearing a sparkle skirt. After sewing one for the L.L. Bean 10K in July, I was confident that I would create one for the marathon. Yesterday, I made this little number.

I tried it out on my treadmill tempo run this morning. The run was not great. I was supposed to run 8 miles at marathon pace (8:49), but made it two whole miles before feeling terrible. Then I ran/walked for another 1.75 miles. #runfail

Back to the skirt. I'm not totally sold. I plan on wearing my Tommie Copper compression shorts underneath, but the skirt kind-of spins around as I run and I have a feeling I would be annoyed over 26.2 miles. Also, I'm thinking the pattern color is a bit too much with my shirt and shoes.

What do you think? Should I just go with the compression shorts (black) and go sans skirt? Make another one in a different fabric in a solid color? HELP!

  1. ooooh i LOVE the outfit (its pink!!) but you are absolutely right, it will annoy you big time over 26 miles if it annoyed you at all for your shorter run. i would test and test and test again (despite not having a TON of time left eeeeeek!) before you make the final decision. obviously its ALL about style, but the last thing you want to do is be all mad about what youre wearing and not focus on your race.

  2. I love the skirt and if you don't wear it then I want to!! lol maybe you could tack it to the shorts so it doesn't spin?

You are so crafty... I would just go buy a darn skirt instead of trying to do it myself. lol

    1. Tacking it is a great idea. I might be wearing it backwards anyway since I didn't make the back longer and my butt makes it short in the back.

  3. I love all the pink!! But maybe make another one that fits better? 26.2 miles is a long way to go in a skirt that is annoying - and that's the last thing you want to have to worry about. :)
    Good luck!

  4. I love your skirt. I have been working on my homemade skirt, all week. I am testing mine this weekend during a half-marathon before wearing it for the full.

I love the pink (I have those shoes). Too many people wear all black...

  6. Super cute.....but comfort is the most important. I love the sparkles and would have a hard time parting with that....but maybe save that for a fun race and just do the shorts for the marathon. Or be ok with the fact that you might ditch it part way through (that is of course if you are wearing the shorts too.....I would not recommend going commando)!

  7. I would say sew it to the shorts.

  9. I love the outfit! I would probably just go with compression shorts since that is what I will be wearing on the day of my first marathon (the same day as yours but a different one).

Pick whatever you will be the most comfortable in for 26.2 miles :)

  10. I LOVE the outfit! (but agree that it would annoy the bejeebus out of you...) Which is too bad because it looks boss ;-)

    1. Ha, thanks! I was thinking those kick-ass green socks you were wearing in your last 5k would be perfect, too.

  11. Love the skirt. I love seeing racers all decked out. It makes me cheer even louder and you'll probably get lots of "lookin' good" comments - which can be a great temporary distraction from the race. ;)

if all else fails, you can take off the skirt, tuck it into your belt and just run in your compression shorts.

    good luck!

  12. Gotta look great - so go with the skirt and attach to the skirt. I like that idea the most. I love your outfit. You will look marvelous!

  13. That is the awesomest pink and orange running outfit. I hope I get a chance to see you in it! :)

  14. Skirt is super cute, but not worth it if it will annoy you on the marathon. It's too long to be even slightly uncomfy! :)
