Track Tuesday and 1/2 Marathon Training: Day One

It definitely doesn't feel like December 6th in Maine. Rainy and 50 degrees. If we hadn't put in our Christmas tree yesterday, I don't know if I'd believe that winter is just two weeks away!

I wasn't sure how I'd feel doing speed work this morning after my PR performance on Sunday, but this being the first official day of my half marathon training plan, I didn't feel right slacking right off the bat. That doesn't mean my internal monologue during my warm up mile didn't go something like this:

Twelve 400s, I don't know if I can do that. My calves are tight from the 5K, maybe I shouldn't push it right after a race. But it's the first day of of half training. I can't not do something. Maybe I'll do this week's tempo run. No, I can't remember what that is this week. Just do the 400s. Maybe just do eight. NO!!! You haven't PR'd your last four races by slacking off. Just do the friggin' 400s!

So this is what I did:
1 mile warm up
12 x 400 @ 1:45 w/ 90 sec RI
1 mile cool down

My splits:
1 - 1:42
2 - 1:39
3 - 1:39
4 - 1:41
5 - 1:38
6 - 1:36
7 - 1:35
8 - 1:36
9 - 1:39
10 - 1:39
11 - 1:37
12 - 1:36

I guess I could have slowed them down a bit, but in all honesty, they felt good and it wasn't until #9 that my legs really started to feel fatigued.

Day one - check! 122 days to go!
