First 10K Coming Up

I completed my last 6-mile training run today for the upcoming L.L. Bean 4th of July 10K. Okay, so it is also only the second time in my entire life that I have ever run that distance and the first time was last week. Do I feel ready? Uh, I guess so. At least I know I can go that far and at a decent pace for a solo run. The six miles that I cover at home is three miles out and three miles back and relatively flat, with the exception that I always end the run (any run) going up a quarter-mile hill. In Monday's race, though I've never run it, all the hills are in the last half of the race.
I mean, look at mile 4! I work in Freeport and my husband is from there. I know what those roads are like. Ugh...

My goal is to run a 8:45 pace. I think that is doable considering the excitement and adrenaline that comes with running along with close to 1500 other people. I'm trying not to set my goals too high and be realistic given the amount of training I've been able to put in. I would love to be able to keep pace with my friend Stacy's friend, Jen of Running With the Girls, both who are running, but from reading her blog she's way too fast for me. Maybe next year. You hear that Jen? I'm coming for you. I don't even know you, but I'm coming for you! Just kidding. :-)

Work tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday then it will be the 4th! Seriously, July already?!? How did that happen?


  1. Honestly - you may catch me. I'm still feeling the tightness from the half on Sunday. I think my time at the LL Bean 10k was 53ish minutes!

    It's a tough course - best of luck! I'd love to meet up with you on Monday!
